Former Labor senator Stephen Conroy says China is “militarising” and “destabilising” the Pacific region and Australia must watch if its “actions betray the kind words”. He said China has “no nuance” to its foreign policy approach. “You either grovel and toe the line or you just get abused,” Mr Conroy told Sky News Australia. “We’ll have to manage that – we’ll have to understand that their rhetoric may at moments be friendly and may at moments be hostile.”
