Hancock Prospecting Executive Chairman Gina Rinehart says Australia “desperately” needs self-sufficiency across several key areas.
In a wide-ranging exclusive interview with Andrew Bolt on Sky News Australia, Ms Rinehart called for greater defence spending and shared her thoughts on Australia’s relationship with China.
“We must be sufficient, self-sufficient, in our minerals – not just ore and coal, of course, but widespread rare earths,” Ms Rinehart said.
“I think we need self-sufficiency in medicines – we need self-sufficiency in defence materials.
“I think we need to do a bit more in the mining industry.”
Ms Rinehart also called for a “refocus on our budgets – our federal budgets to include more for defence”.
