Agenda C’s Parnell Palme McGuinness says the most recent Newspoll was a “sobering moment” for the election campaign.
The poll, conducted for The Australian, revealed first preference support for Labor has fallen by one point to 36 per cent, while for the Coalition, this has also declined by one point to 35 per cent.
Ms McGuinness said it is not just a “one-off poll” showing that “the independents are really gaining ground”.
“It is across the board, something that is showing up in polls – that there is a big soft vote election and that there are a lot of people who are still to be won over; they’re not necessarily happy with either party,” she told Sky News Australia.
