Iraqi Dassault Falcon 50
Initially, the captain of the U.S.S. Stark did not know what to make of the unknown aircraft approaching his ship while on patrol in the Persian Gulf during the Iran-Iraq War. It didn’t appear to be hostile, and, although not known at the time, it was, in fact, a private business jet. Yet suddenly and unprovoked, the Iraqi-flagged Falcon 50 fired two missiles at the U.S. Navy frigate. Both hit their target. It was an incredible event that nearly sank the U.S.S.
